Simultaneous removal of nitrite and organics in a biofilm-enhanced high-salt wastewater treatment system via mixotrophic denitrification coupled with sulfate reduction

چکیده

The reduction of sulfate to sulfide was seldom considered for high-salt wastewater treatment, although could supply electron donors remove nitrite. reduction, heterotrophic denitrification and autotrophic were integrated in one biofilm-enhanced treatment system the used as an intermediate reaction. Both reactor performances spatial distribution bacterial communities studied. metabolic pathways carbon, nitrogen sulfur also discussed based on functional genes analysis. removal efficiencies nitrite organics reached 100%, attributed stable community. Desulfobacter, Sulfurimonas, Fastidiosipila Pseudomonas dominant bacteria biofilm. abundance diversity decreased with increase water depth because different concentrations substrates brought various strength each bio-reaction. Sulfate achieved through assimilation pathway by genes. oxidation autotrophic/heterotrophic seawater’s high salinity promoted synergistic effect reducing desulfurization-denitrification bacteria, which helped efficient operation this system.

Nitrogen Removal from Milking Center Wastewater via Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification using a Biofilm Filtration System

Milking center wastewater (MCW) has a relatively low ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C/N ratio), which shall be separately managed from livestock manure due to the negative impacts of manure nutrients and harmful effects on down-stream of livestock manure process with respect to the microbial growth. Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) is corresponded by the inhibition of second n...

Coupled Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR)/Activated Sludge Treatment of Synthetic Wastewater with High Concentration of Sulfate and COD

A synthetic wastewater with high concentration of sulfate and COD was treated in anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) coupled with an activated sludge. The work was accomplished in two phases. In the first phase, the concentration of sulfate was kept constant at 500mg/l, but COD concentration was increased from (3000mg/l to 6000mg/l), consequently, COD and sulfate removal in ABR reached to 80% and 9...

salt inhibition effects on simultaneous heterotrophic/autotrophic denitrification of high nitrate wastewater

denitrification of high- nitrate high- salinity wastewater is difficult due to plasmolysis and inactivation of denitrifiers at high salinity conditions. in this study, the effects of salinity and empty bed contact time (ebct) on simultaneous heterotrophic and sulfur based autotrophic denitrification of synthetic wastewater were evaluated in an up flow packed bed reactor .the reactor was filled ...
